El Palmas Music to release the first single from Tabaco, their appraisal of the Afro- Caribbean hip-shaking genius of Venezuela’s Tabaco .
“Imolle” is both a celebration and a homage to the African origins of Caribbean rhythms. Taking the name of a Yoruba deity, Imolle, this one is all about honouring the spiritual roots of salsa, creating a rhythmic ceremony that mixes salsa with African rhythms. It’s there in the blend of percussion and wind instruments, and it’s there in the song’s lyrics. They invite us to the bembé, to Yoruba mass, to dance and let
ourselves be carried away by Tabaco Quintana’s catchy melody. The emotion connected to the tribal origins of Caribbean music is never far away, and as we immerse ourselves in the rhythm and let our bodies get loose and dance, we can be sure that we are venerating the goddess Imolle at the same time.
“Imolle” was recorded by Tabaco Quintana with his group Tabaco y sus Metales, which was one of two groups that Tabaco formed, the first being Tabaco y su Sexteto.
Both groups established Tabaco as one of Venezuela’s finest singers, and a master of rhythm, which saw him gain acclaim throughout Latin America.
El Palmas Music are collecting the best of the music he made with Tabaco y sus Metales and Tabaco y su Sexteto on a new compilation simply titled Tabaco.
“Imolle” is the first single from Tabaco. It will be released by El Palmas Music on 28th April 2023
